Providing Food Relief for Communities in Southern Arizona

This week we collaborated with Ajo Farmers Market to help deliver fresh food to underserved communities in Southern Arizona. Roughly 700 food boxes were assembled and distributed to families in Ajo, Why, and the Tohono O'odham Nation as part of the Covid-19 Relief Program. The boxes weighed an average of 35 pounds each and included fresh fruits and vegetables. Thanks to Farmer Frank from Crooked Sky Farms, Hussein Al Hamka from Al Hamka Family Farms, and Community Food Band of Southern Arizona these boxes came to fruition.

Boxes went to the first responders in Ajo. Watermelons, and other produce went to free meals for kids at the Ajo Unified School District #15 and Senior Services at Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation. We thank all who were involved in this process including volunteers, partners, and funders. We are incredibly proud of our local growers for donating their produce to help feed those in need. Together, we can ensure that no communities are left without access to fresh, healthy foods. We look forward to participating in more projects such as this in the future!
